Killaloe Diocese Year of Mercy pilgrimage to the Holy Land

by | 26 Oct, 2016 | News

Over 100 pilgrims from the Diocese of Killaloe have undertaken a special pilgrimage to the Holy Land as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The pilgrimage is led by Father Tom Ryan and Father Brendan Quinlivan, who were joined on their journey by Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, and Monsignor Kenneth McCaffrey from Dunkeld Diocese in Scotland.

The pilgrimage departed from Shannon Airport on Sunday 23 October, arriving in Tel Aviv, Israel, later that day. On their journey so far, pilgrims have visited the Sea of Gallilee, the Mount of the Beatitudes, the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth, and Cana in Gallilee, where 14 couples from the pilgrimage group renewed their wedding vows.

As the pilgrimage continues, pilgrims will travel to Bethlehem to celebrate Mass in the Church of the Nativity and see the birthplace of Jesus. The final destination of the pilgrimage is the city of Jerusalem, where pilgrims will walk the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Rock of Calvary. They will return to Ireland on Monday 31 October.
