Almost 350 students gathered in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, this week, to receive the Pope John Paul II and Muiredach Cross awards. Archbishop Eamon Martin was present for the awards ceremony and he took the opportunity to welcome those present from across the diocese through the Holy Door as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, saying: “By crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, may you find the strength to embrace God’s mercy in your life as well as becoming more merciful towards others.”

The Pope John Paul II Award was created to commemorate Saint John Paul II. The award celebrates those who take an active part in the life of their parish, in the life of their community and in society. For more information about the award, visit www.thepopejohnpauliiaward.com.

The Muiredach Cross Award is a new faith development award of the Archdiocese of Armagh. Its primary aim is to create opportunities for our young people to put their faith into action and to celebrate the excellent work currently being done throughout our schools and parishes.
