Archbishop Eamon Martin leads Armagh Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock this weekend

by | 27 May, 2016 | News

The annual Armagh Diocesan pilgrimage to Knock will take place this Sunday 29 May, led by Archbishop Eamon Martin, Archbishop of Armagh. Archbishop Martin will act as chief celebrant at the Mass on Sunday, and will also lead a special procession in celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Pilgrims to Knock Shrine this year will also have the opportunity to pass through the Holy Door of Mercy in the Chapel of Reconciliation, opened in December 2015 by Archbishop Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam.

This will also be the first Diocesan Pilgrimage from Armagh since the refurbishment of the Basilica in Knock. Because of this, and the special emphasis placed on pilgrimage in this Jubilee Year by Pope Francis, this year’s pilgrimage is expected to be one of the biggest in years, according to organiser Father Benny Fee, with close to 1,000 pilgrims anticipated to join from across the parishes of Armagh. Parishioners will also be joined on this pilgrimage by the Knights of St Columbanus.
