Armagh and Rome joined in prayer for the sick and disabled

This weekend in Rome Pope Francis is celebrating a Jubilee for sick people and for those with disabilities as part of the Year of Mercy.

In solidarity with Pope Francis, the Archdiocese of Armagh has today welcomed the sick and people with disabilities to attend Mass in the two Jubilee churches of the Archdiocese of Armagh: Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh and Saint Peter’s Church in Drogheda.

Archbishop Eamon Martin was the main celebrant at the Mass in Armagh.   The theme was: “When I am weak, I am strong”.  The Archbishop was joined by volunteers who have just returned from pilgrimage to Lourdes with the sick, and also by members of the Knights of Malta.

The Masses took place in both churches at 11.00am today to coincide with a Mass which Pope Francis was celebrating in Saint Peter’s Basilica Rome at that time.

The diocesan pilgrimage to the Holy Doors, which departs for Rome tomorrow, will form part of these celebrations.
