Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia from Nashville invited to begin mission in Diocese of Limerick

by | 15 Jun, 2016 | News

Bishop Brendan Leahy has invited four Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia from Nashville, Tennessee, to take over the Dominican Priory and to establish a mission to serve in the Diocese of Limerick, Ireland, beginning in August of 2016.

Dominicans have served in Limerick diocese for almost 800 years, with the first Dominican foundation being made there in 1227, not long after the Order began. The sisters will be serving the Dominican church Saint Saviour’s which was given to the Dominicans in 1815 and which has been blessed by the presence of the Irish Dominican friars.

Four sisters will begin their mission in the Diocese of Limerick in August. Their first apostolate will be to give witness to the joy of consecrated life, serving in areas which will be of benefit to the diocese. The sisters look forward to getting to know the people of Limerick and how they can best serve the Church in Ireland in accord with the Dominican charism and the spirit of the New Evangelization.
