It is estimated that 10 million people will join together in prayer this year as part of the annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests.
The eighth annual Relay will take place this year on Friday 23 June, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Over 100 shrines in more than 50 different countries, crossing 24 time zones, will play a part in this relay by praying a particular mystery of the Rosary at an allocated time. By midnight on 23 June, the entire world will be ‘encircled in prayer’.
A special Global Rosary Relay ‘Prelude’ will take place this year at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico on Thursday 22 June.
The Global Rosary Rely itself will begin on Friday 23 June at Shinnaedong Church, a new shrine in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, and will finish 24 hours later in the Shrine of the Divine Child Jesus, Hermosillo, Mexico.
This year new participants will join the Relay from locations as diverse as Iceland, Chile, Peru, Thailand and Hawaii.
Participating shrines in Ireland will include:
- The Father Patrick Peyton Centre in Attymass, Co Mayo, which will pray the Luminous Mysteries at 2.15pm;
- Knock Shrine, Co Mayo, which will pray the Glorious Mysteries at 2.30pm;
- Our Lady of Dublin Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church, Dublin 2, which will pray the Joyful Mysteries at 3.45pm Irish time;
- Poor Clare Saint Damian’s Monastery, Dublin 4, which will pray the Joyful Mysteries at 6.15pm; and
- Our Lady’s Island, Wexford, which will pray the Glorious Mysteries at 8.00pm.
The Global Rosary Relay for Priests is organised by WorldPriest, a lay organisation of professional communications people formed in 2003 by Irish lay Carmelite Marion Mulhall to ‘affirm the dignity, beauty and gift of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ in humanity’.
