A Scottish bishop will celebrate Mass on a double-decker bus, for the first time in the UK, in Paisley (Scotland) on Saturday 5 August.

Bishop John Keenan, the Bishop of Paisley, will be joined by Father Joe Burke on the Mercy bus at 2.00pm to celebrate the Mass, marking the end of a week-long tour of central Scotland.

The bus tour is the brainchild of the ‘Friends of Divine Mercy Scotland’. Organiser Helen Border explained the Mercy bus, which she said is inspired by the call from Pope Francis to go out to the people and take the Church to them. She said, “We’ve decided to do just that, with a church on wheels.”

The bus has already visited: Paisley, Coatbridge, Greenock, Barrhead and Glasgow over the week-long tour which has seen priests hearing confessions on the top deck of the Mercy bus. Everyone has been made feel welcome on the bus.

Commenting on the Mercy bus, Bishop Keenan said, “This is a fantastic initiative and a wonderful example of evangelisation, which takes the Church out into the world. I hope this venture will be the first of many similar initiatives which offer people a route back to a relationship with God.”
