Welcome for new era of Church publications

17 Jun, 2025 | Church, News

As the winding down of the Veritas publication company nears completion, Bishops stated during their Summer 2025 General meeting in Columba Centre of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth:  “We wish to express our deep gratitude to the former employees and customers of Veritas Communications CLG for their hard work and loyalty over many decades.  Veritas was one of the most recognisable high street brands in Ireland, north and south, and it provided a source of great joy and spiritual comfort to generations of children preparing for the Sacraments as well as to anyone with an interest in theology and reading about the life of the Church at home and abroad.  Veritas served the publishing and catechetical needs of the Bishops’ Conference very well, and the closure of its business operations represents a great loss to all directly involved as well as for the whole Church in Ireland.”

Some resources that were previously supplied by Veritas are now being provided by two new publishers.  Parishes are asked to make contact with these new publishers for required supplies of Church-related print material and publications:

ACN Church Resources DAC: To obtain Pre Nuptial Inquiry Forms, copies of certificates – Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage and Death – Letters of Freedom, Parish Registers, Order of Christian Funerals and other ritual books, please contact Aid to the Church in Need (Ireland) on [email protected], and/or its dedicated mobile number +353  (0) 87 445 9329.  For those who wish to place their order by post, please do so via: Sales Department, ACN Church Resources, 151 Saint Mobhi Rd, Glasnevin, D09 HC82.  ACN Church Resources will also publish the pastoral magazine Intercom, the annual Irish Catholic Directory and the Liturgical Calendar for Ireland, as well as managing content on the associated social media and online platforms.

Folens: The Grow in Love primary school religious book series and the portfolio of religious school books will now be distributed by the Folens publishing company.  Folens is also responsible for managing the growinlove.ie website, along with other related websites and apps.  For further information please contact [email protected] or phone +353 1 4137 200.

Welcoming this new era for Church publications, the National Director of the charity ‘Aid to the Church in Need, Ireland’, Harry Casey (pictured above with Michael Kelly), said, “I am delighted that, as part of ACN’s mission to serve both the local and universal Church, ACN Ireland has launched ‘ACN Church Resources DAC’ which will publish and supply much of the material that was once provided by Veritas.  From now on, ACN Church Resources will be the one-stop resource for the various publications needed by parishes across the island.  Whether it is a new altar Missal, pre-nuptial inquiry forms or parish registers, ‘ACN Church Resources’ has your parish covered.  Many of these items available can be viewed by clicking on our new website www.acnchurchresources.ie.”

Mr Casey continued, “As part of this new arrangement, ACN Church Resources DAC will now also publish the bishops’ resource magazine for people in ministry and for those working to support local parishes, Intercom; in addition to the Liturgical Calendar for Ireland; and, the annual Irish Catholic Directory.”

“The mission of ACN is to serve the Church wherever it lacks the necessary means to fulfil its mission.  So, we are proud to take over where Veritas left off and continue to serve our priests, religious, lay faithful and parish communities with the various liturgical and Church resources that are necessary to fulfil the pastoral needs of the Catholic Church.  This will continue alongside our work to serve the world’s most vulnerable Christians in some 6,000 communities across the world.”

“This significant undertaking will be managed by our legendary office staff at ACN Ireland, and is being complemented by my own background working in education and my previous leadership role with the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference; by author and former journalist Michael Kelly who, with his over twenty years of experience, is known nationally and internationally for his writing, editing and as a broadcast expert on Church affairs; and by Brandon Scott, fresh from his role as a reporter with The Irish Catholic.  I am also thrilled to announce that we are joined by the indefatigable Colette Dower, who brings to ACN many years of professional service dedicated to the mission of the Church while working with Veritas.  It is a great source of support for everyone that Father Paul Clayton-Lea of Armagh, with his unrivalled insights, will continue as editor of Intercom, while the great liturgist Father Paddy Jones of Dublin will continue to bring his grace and encyclopaedic knowledge to the Ordo.  All-in-all we have worked hard to build an effective team that will successfully serve our mission into the future.” Mr Casey said.

Anyone wishing to contact ACN Church Resources DAC can do so via email on [email protected] or by telephone to 01 727 0003 (+353 1 727 0003 from outside of the Republic), or by mobile at +353 87 445 9329.
