Cardinal Kevin Farrell celebrates first Mass in chapel dedicated to Mary, Queen of Families

Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell celebrated his first Mass as Cardinal on Monday 21 November in a chapel inside the Vatican dedicated to Mary, Queen of Families and attended by his family from Ireland and more than 100 people from the Diocese of Dallas.

The Irishman and former Dallas bishop said the Mass setting was appropriate since he is now in charge of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life at the Vatican. He thanked those who made the pilgrimage, not only to see him elevated to cardinal, but to attend the closing Mass of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

He told those who filled the small chapel that although the Year of Mercy had closed, their hearts should remain open to mercy and they should remember their acts of kindness and mercy during the past year and continue it. He said that those who want to remember him should do so by doing good deeds for others.
