The National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place on Sunday 13 September at 3pm.
This year, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the popular pilgrimage will be an online event.
Speaking ahead of this year’s pilgrimage, Catherine Wiley, Founder of the Catholic Grandparents Association said, “Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our grandparents day is a little different this year. Who would’ve thought this time last year when we were here in our thousands, that we would be preparing to gather together virtually to celebrate grandparents?
“These have been difficult months for all grandparents and their families. It has been physically challenging and mentally and emotionally distressing to watch the numbers of those ill rising, and to know that we have lost many wonderful family members and friends to the virus.
As we gather virtually for this year’s pilgrimage we will be praying for all grandparents – that God will keep them safe and well. We will also be remembering all those who have passed away since last year’s pilgrimage.
I look forward to joining online with grandparents from across Ireland and farther afield for this year’s pilgrimage.”
