Archbishop Eamon Martin welcomes Day of Prayer for Peace in Ukraine

13 Sep, 2022 | News

As a gesture of solidarity for Ukraine, Clergy on the island of Ireland, as well as, all around Europe, have planned a Day of Prayer for Peace in Ukraine to be held on Wednesday 14 September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is celebrated in a particularly solemn way in the Eastern Rite.

On Wednesday, Liturgies will include a prayer for peace in Ukraine during Mass, and an opportunity for silent Eucharistic Adoration will be provided also.

Archbishop Eamon Martin, Primate of All Ireland said, “As a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who have been stricken by war since the 24 February, it is proposed that a day of prayer be held throughout the whole continent. I welcome this powerful prayerful initiative and invite everyone to pray in a special way for peace in Ukraine on Wednesday.”

Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, Apostolic visitator for Ukrainians Resident in Ireland and Northern Ireland, has shared a prayer to be delivered this Wednesday. See excerpt below:

“Bless the hearts of those who have already shown great generosity and solidarity, and those who prepare to receive their Ukrainian brothers and sisters in Ukraine’s greatest time of need.”
