In the context of the European Year of Youth, Cardinal Jean Claude Hollerich SJ, President of COMECE – which represents the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of all the member States of the European Union – launched ‘COMECE Catholic Youth Net’ on 5 October last. This novel network aims to promote the participation of young European Catholics in shaping policy of the European Union.
Speak at the launch Cardinal Hollerich said, “Over the next months, the members of the COMECE Youth Net will reflect on the promotion of EU common values, such as democracy and fundamental rights, and present their contribution to the COMECE Assembly in 2023. Youth Net will be consulted on various policy dossiers so as to bring in the youth perspective to all dimensions of EU policymaking. This is a wonderful collaboration as policymakers themselves will, in turn, benefit from young people’s diverse sensitivity on current political and social challenges.”
Going forward, Catholic Youth Net will complement the work of the Brussels-based secretariat of COMECE.
