Calming the Storms “left me with a sense of hope and possibility”

The following personal reflection on Calming the Storms – Meditation as a Path to inner Peace and Happiness, written by Chah Garde of the Catholic Communications Office, was based on the recent publication of Brother Richard Hendrick OFM Cap, a priest-friar living and ministering in Ireland.

“Calming the Storms resonated deeply with me, particularly in its call to embrace life’s chaos with acceptance and trust rather than resistance.  This perspective, which I have often struggled with during hard times, was gently reinforced by the book, reminding me of the power in surrendering to the present moment.

“One of the most impactful ideas was the emphasis on cultivating inner stillness. While I have always admired the concept of finding peace within and people who often master that concept, I frequently get caught up in the busyness and chaos of everyday life.  Reading about the importance of taking time to breathe, reflect, and be mindful encouraged me to re-think my daily routine.  It inspired me to start small – perhaps with a few minutes of quiet in the morning or before bed – to anchor myself at the beginning and end of each day.

“Another powerful takeaway from Calming the Storms was the reminder of the strength found in community and the family I have created over the years traveling the world.  The book’s reflections on the importance of connection resonated deeply, especially as I navigate challenges that often lead me to isolate myself and not ask for help.  It was a humbling realisation that leaning on others and offering kindness in return can be profoundly healing, this made me realise that it’s ok to take from others when being offered instead of always being the one that gives.

“The book left me with a sense of hope and possibility.  It taught me that life isn’t about achieving perfection or avoiding storms altogether but about learning to navigate them with grace.  This shift in mindset feels empowering, encouraging me to view difficult moments not as obstacles but as opportunities to grow stronger and more grounded.

Calming the Storms is a gentle nudge towards living with greater intention and peace, no matter what life throws my way.  Most importantly Brother Richard’s book gave me the courage to want to ‘fill the cup I am pouring from’ everyday.

“I strongly recommend others to read Calming the Storms.
