The Council for Life of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference will launch a nine-day Pray For Life Novena which will run from 23 May next until Friday 31 May which falls on the Feast of the Visitation.

Ahead of the launch, Bishop Kevin Doran, Bishop of Achonry and of Elphin and chairman of the Bishops’ Council for Life, said, “Prayer is a vital Prolife activity because if our prayer is sincere, it inevitably leads us to take action, and to be part of bringing about what we have prayed for”.

The Pray for Life Novena is an initiative from the Bishops’ Conference’s Council for Life, inviting thousands across Ireland to unite in prayer for the protection of human life at every stage.  Each day of the novena features a specific intention, along with a brief reflection and practical suggestions to help foster a culture of life across the island of Ireland.

The Novena, which is in its third year now, coincide with the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Encyclical Letter Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) of Saint Pope John Paul II.  In this Jubilee Year of Hope, everyone is invited to reflect on the message of hope offered by Evangelium Vitae – a call for a renewal of respect for life and a transformation of society through the redemptive message of the Gospel.
