In 2014 Pope Francis launched a prayer initiative called 24 Hours for the Lord to encourage people to return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The hope was that the action would be replicated all over the world and that at least one church in each diocese would remain open for the full 24 hours to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation to those who wished to celebrate it.
The Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin will host 24 Hours for the Lord this year between Friday 24 and Saturday 25 March in three parishes across the diocese -Portlaoise, Carbury and Tullow. Details:
- Portlaoise: 10.00am Friday to 10.00am Saturday
- Carbury: 5.00pm Friday to 5.00pm Saturday
- Tullow: 6.00pm Friday to 6.00pm Saturday
24 hours for the Lord will offer a quiet time for quiet prayer and reflection in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament as well as offering the faithful an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Priests from around the diocese, including Bishop Denis Nulty, will be available during each hour of the 24hour period to hear confessions. All are welcome.
