This Saturday 28 June, all are welcome to gather in the carpark of the Reek – the popular name for Ireland’s holy mountain Coagh Patrick, just west of Ballina, Co mayo – at 9.30am for the first Rosary on the Reek Pilgrimage for Jubilee Year of Hope. The climb will begin at 10.00am followed by the Rosary at 12noon, once pilgrims reach the summit. Pilgrims of all ages are invited to climb on this famous holy mountain for a Pilgrimage of Hope.
Speaking ahead of the pilgrimage Fina Golden, Retreat Coordinator at the Father Peyton Centre in Ballina said, “A pilgrimage on this wonderful ancient site is an opportunity to unite ourselves with the faith of our ancestors and to remind ourselves of the lasting gift of faith they have passed on to us. Climbing together gives us time to talk and to share our faith experiences and it creates a sense of community. We can share our hopes with each other and take courage knowing that we are not alone, but we are part of wonderful faith community. We have a long tradition of pilgrimage in this country and the Father Peyton Centre is delighted to combine the traditions of rosary and pilgrimage on Croagh Patrick this year.
“In an exciting addition to the climb for 2025, Lough Derg, Knock Shrine, and Croagh Patrick launched ‘Pilgrim Passport’, to mark the significant occasion of Jubilee Year 2025. By visiting each of the three iconic pilgrimage sites – Croagh Patrick and Knock Shrine, both in County Mayo, and Lough Derg in County Donegal – pilgrims can get their pilgrim passport stamped. Once the three stamps are achieved, one from each of the sites, you can purchase a special commemorative Pin. The Pilgrim Passport will be available on the day. It can be stamped once you have completed the climb.”
Ms Golden concluded, “This pilgrimage is open to everyone, whether you are part of a group or joining on your own, you will be welcomed into our group. Remember, our weather can be unpredictable. Please bring suitable walking shoes, appropriate clothing and some food. Don’t forget your rosary beads!!!”
