On Tuesday next, 5 March, at 8.00pm, the Bishops’ Council for Vocations, in collaboration with ‘The Hook of Faith’, will host a vocations webinar entitled ‘The Last Priest in Ireland? It Depends on You’. All are welcome to participate in the discussion.
‘The Hook of Faith’ is an evangelization and communication website managed by Father Billy Swan of the Diocese of Ferns, and it publishes topics of value to people of faith as well as important matters for Church life in Ireland, and universally.
On 5 March input and discussion on the webinar will offer an opportunity for a Church-based response to the RTÉ televised documentary ‘The Last Priest in Ireland’, broadcast in January. The keynote speaker will be Irish Times columnist Ms Breda O’Brien, followed by two respondents, and there will be an opportunity for questions.
Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan (pictured with seminarians), chair of the Bishops’ Conference Council for Vocations said,”I welcome this opportunity to keep our focus on vocations to the diocesan priesthood for the future of the Church in Ireland. This event is another important moment in the year dedicated to prayer and promotion of the diocesan priesthood entitled ‘Take the Risk for Christ’ which conludes on Good Shepherd Sunday on 21 April 2024.”
Bishop Cullinan continued, “It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the issues raised during the RTÉ documentary, and to realise how all of us are co-responsible for a culture of vocations in the Church today.”
‘The Hook of Faith’ was formally launched by Bishop Denis Brennan, Bishop Emeritus of Ferns, in May 2018. The creation of the platform was a response to recent Popes who encouraged all the baptised to proclaim the Gospel using every means possible.
