During the Summer 2019 General Meeting of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, bishops discussed the invitation from the Government to its plenary meeting of representatives of Churches, faith communities and non-confessional organisations. The meeting will be held in Dublin Castle on 4 July, and will be chaired by the Taoiseach, Mr Leo Varadkar TD.

Bishops nominated Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin, vice-president of the Bishops’ Conference, and Ms Siobhan Hanley, Head of Region for Trócaire Northern Ireland, to attend this plenary meeting.

In advance of this plenary meeting, bishops submitted the following topics for consideration for discussion on 4 July: conscience, care of the marginalised, and support for parents who wish for a faith based education for their children.
