Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will participate in an inter-faith prayer service in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin, on Sunday, 3 April. The service will focus on the Easter Rising, and the executions that followed in May and August of that year, commemorating the 485 people killed during the Easter Rising.

The prayer service will take place alongside marble plinths bearing the names of those who died, including members of the Irish Volunteers, Irish Citizen Army, British Army, Dublin Metropolitan Police, Royal Irish Constabulary, as well as civilians, including many children. An Taoiseach will attend and leaders of several Christian Churches and the Jewish and Muslim faiths from across Ireland, will participate. The Catholic Church will be represented at the service by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, two of whose aunts took part in the Rising, as did an uncle. There will be particular inputs from young people from each faith tradition and music for the ceremony will be provided by the Army Band.

The service will be broadcast from 10.45am on RTÉ One Television and on RTÉ News Now.
