Monday last, 15 February, was the anniversary of the announcement of his appointment as Bishop of Ferns in 2006. Today, a presentation was made to Bishop Denis Brennan at the 10.00am Ash Wednesday Mass in Saint Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, to mark the occasion of his golden jubilee as a priest of the diocese of Ferns.
A small gathering occurred due to Covid-19 restrictions. Last year, Bishop Denis quietly celebrated the golden jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood on 31 May 1970, along with a congregation of ten people in Rathnure church, the location of his first Mass on 1 June 1970.
The presentation this morning to Bishop Denis was of a bronze representation of ‘The Last Supper’ by Irish artist Fergus O’Farrell. Speaking at the small ceremony, Monsignor Joe McGrath paid tribute to Bishop Denis Brennan for his work and pastoral leadership over the years as priest and bishop.
