Bishop Noel Treanor, Bishop of Down and Connor, has condemned the attack on a police officer in Belfast on Sunday 22 January. Bishop Treanor said, “On behalf of the Diocese of Down and Connor, I denounce and condemn in the strongest possible terms the deplorable attack this evening on a police officer in North Belfast.

“This attack upon a member of the police force which serves the entire community is alien to the widespread desire, hope and prayer for stability and peace in a shared society. Destructive and divisive violence serves no one.

“I assure the injured police officer, his family and the PSNI of my continued prayerful support at this difficult time.”
