Diocesan Eucharistic Adoration Committee launched in Achonry Diocese

Bishop Brendan Kelly of Achonry has celebrated a special Mass to mark the commissioning of a Eucharistic Adoration Committee for the Diocese of Achonry. The Mass took place on Saturday 22 April in St James’ Church, Charlestown, Co Mayo.

The Diocesan Eucharistic Adoration Committee is made up of lay people sent as delegates from parishes across Achonry. Over the past three months, members have undergone training and formation to set up weekly adoration in parishes of the diocese, and to strengthen and expand existing programmes.

In his homily, Bishop Kelly spoke of the importance of gathering in the Eucharistic Presence to draw strength and peace, and the role we all have to share this crucial message for our time. Mentioning Mary who pondered the Lord’s word during his visit to the family home, Bishop Kelly said that the role of the listener is key to deepening our understanding of and relationship with the Lord.

The development of the Eucharistic Adoration Committee was organised and conducted by Brendan Cleary and John Howard of the national committee of the Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration, at the invitation of Bishop Brendan Kelly, and with the support of the priests of the diocese. One third of the parishes of the diocese have already requested a future weekend presentation or renewal with the new committee and more are expected in the weeks ahead.
