Dublin parish receives €100k energy grant to improve heating system

Encouraging parishes to avail of sustainable energy grants to improve their heating systems, Ms Céire Sadlier (pictured), Grants Officer at the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference said, “sustainable energy is an issue that is a priority for our funders.  As many parishes are finding that their heating systems are beyond repair, funders are encouraging parishes to research all options available including more sustainable heating systems before applying to them for funding, where feasible.”

Grants have been made available from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland – SEAI – the national sustainable energy authority that works with householders, businesses, communities and government to create a cleaner energy future.

Ms Sadlier continued, “for parishes, a good place to start is by exploring new heating systems and other energy efficiency measures, for example: insulation; windows; doors; zoning; solar panels, is to get an energy audit.  Parishes with utility bills of over €10,000 per year may be eligible for a voucher from the SEAI towards an energy audit.  This gives the parish a comprehensive understanding of the way they use energy and the options available to them to reduce energy usage and utility bills.  Energy efficiency related works may be eligible for grants from the SEAI and other funders.”

“One church in Dublin has recently received over €100,000 towards its new underfloor heating system from the SEAI,” Ms Sadlier said.
