EU Bishops’ Conferences to host YouTube seminar on Laudate Deum and Green Transition
COMECE, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conference in the European Union, is preparing for a special event to highlight Laudate Deum and the EU’s Green Transition. This will take place on 7 December in Brussels. Laudate Deum was published by Pope Francis on 4 October – the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron of ecology – as a warning response to the continual damage caused to creation by humanity. Laudate Deum complements the 2015 best-selling encyclical letter of the Holy Father, Laudato Si, which reflected on caring for our common home.
Along with COMECE, this seminar is being hosted by the Jesuit European Social Centre, and the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSia), on the theme: ‘The new Laudate Deum of Pope Francis and the EU’s Green Transition’. The three speakers will be Josianne Gauthier, secretary general of CIDSE (an international family of Catholic social justice organisations harnessing the power of global solidarity to achieve transformational change for people and the planet) which includes Trócaire as a member; Fr Xavier de Bénzé SJ; and a yet to be announced member of the European Parliament.
The conference will also be an occasion to better understand the importance of Pope Francis’ new message and to rediscover our vocation as guardians of Creation. What is needed urgently is an ability to restore a harmonious relationships between humanity and Creation by making sure that the green transition truly leaves no one behind. Afterwards, participants will be able to dialogue with speakers in a questions and answers session.
