Evening Prayer Resources for marking centenary of 1916 in parishes

11 Mar, 2016 | News

The Diocese of Kildare and Leighton and the National Centre for Liturgy have released some useful resources for parishes in marking the centenary of 1916.

Parishes are invited to explore these two evening prayers that can be used as part of their marking of the centenary of 1916. The first comes from the National Centre for Liturgy, Maynooth. It commemorates both the centenary of the Easter Rising of April 1916 and the Battle of the Somme, that began in July of that year.

The second Evening Prayer has been produced by Faith Development Services in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighton, drawing on a text by Father John Roche, CC Carlow Cathedral and from the text of the National Centre for Liturgy.

While parishes can choose to use these prayers at any stage during the year, on or around April 24th would be a very appropriate time to host this prayer locally as it is the official commemoration day of the 1916 Rising.
