Faith responding to Changing Times – theme of SMA Summer School 2017

‘Faith responding to changing times’ is the theme of the annual Summer School of the Society of African Missions.  The Summer School will be held at Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre, Newry, Co Down from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 July.

The Summer School will be facilitated by Father Sean Healy SMA and the theme will be considered by the following keynote speakers and workshop presenters:

  • Justin Kilcullen: Sustainable Development Goals: a Faith Response
  • Mary Reynolds: Remembering Our Roles as Guardians of the Earth
  • Sr Nellie McLaughlin RSM: Laudato Si’ and the Call to Conversion – Impossible Challenge for the Modern World?
  • Paul Vallely: Can Pope Francis Resolve the Tensions and Differences within the Church and influence others beyond it?
  • Dr Bryan McMahon: The Reality of Direct Provision and the Christian duty to demand Change
  • Rev Ivan Steen: An inclusive parish: A Christian Imperative or Optional Extra?
  • Dr Fainche Ryan: Imbalanced Leadership within the Church: The Challenges and the Consequences
  • Fr Gerry O’Hanlon SJ: Eucharist
  • Dr Jessie Rodgers: A Woman’s Voice in the Church: Biblical and Newcomer Perspectives
  • Fr Gerry O’Hanlon SJ: The People on the Margins: A Faith Response in a Secular Society.
