In preparation for this year’s World Meeting of Families, the Diocese of Derry will host a special ‘Celebration of Family’ conference in Saint Mary’s College, Derry, on Saturday 3 February from 10.00am to 6.00pm.

The conference forms part of the ‘Year of the Family’ in the Diocese of Derry. The Year of the Family for the diocese was launched by Bishop Donal McKeown during Masses for the Feast of the Assumption on 15 August 2017. The aims of the year if the family are to encourage families to pray together at home; to remind us that the Church is ‘the family of families’ (Amoris Laetitia, 87) and to help us to grow as diocesan and parish families – communities of faith, hope and love. The Year of the Family will conclude on 8 September 2018, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Guest speakers at the ‘Celebration of Family’ conference will include Father Johnny Doherty CSsR, author and marriage enrichment specialist with Accord; Grainne Doherty, director for pastoral activities in the Diocese of Raphoe and lecturer in Theology; and Gerard Gallagher, pastoral co-ordinator in the Archdiocese of Dublin and native of Derry.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, His Excellency Archbishop Jade Thaddeus Okolo, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, will also join the conference and will celebrate the closing Mass on the day.

All are welcome to attend the family conference. Registration forms can be found at local parish offices in the diocese, and on www.derrydiocese.org.

The World Meeting of Families 2018 will take place in Dublin from 21–26 August next. For more information please see www.worldmeeting2018.ie.
