On 14 October last, the Knights of Saint Columbanus elected Mr John Murphy as Supreme Knight for a three year term. The meeting took place in Killarney, Co Kerry.
Knights of Saint Columbanus is a fraternal Order of Catholic men who are committed to practical Christianity in all phases of life, and who wish to honour the faith and prepare its members for the apostolate.
The Order was founded in Belfast in 1915 by Father James Kearney O’Neill. Father O’Neill was a native of Ballycastle, Co Antrim, where he studied at the Classical School in Downpatrick. He enrolled in Saint Malachy’s Diocesan College in February 1872 and entered the National Seminary of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Co Kildare, in September 1875. In 1906 he was appointed parish priest of the Sacred Heart Parish, Oldpark Road Belfast.
