Julieann Moran: “young people are the next generation of Church leaders and disciples”

In preparation for the second session of the Universal Synodal Assembly in Rome, which will run from 2 to 27 October, Youth 2000 has been invited to make a written submission on behalf of its members.

Youth 2000 is a Catholic youth organisation that organises lively faith festivals, retreats, prayer groups, and other events for young people aged 16-35, across the island of Ireland.

The Synod’s secretariat in Rome has requested Bishops’ Conferences from around the world to make a submission to this next stage of the universal process, and the Youth 2000 contribution will comprise part of the total submission from Ireland.

According the general secretary of the Irish Synodal Pathway, Ms Julieann Moran, “young people are the next generation of Church leaders and disciples.  Including their considered reflections in our submission will enhance its overall quality in terms of fresh ideas and perspectives.”

To compile its submission, Youth 2000 will host a gathering of young people during March to reflect on their experiences and thoughts about faith, Church and Synod.  This event is open to anyone with an association with Youth 2000 and will include Adoration and times for prayer.

Welcoming the Youth 2000 initiative, Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ, whom Pope Francis recently appointed as the new Bishop of Down and Connor and was a delegate for Ireland at the first Universal Synodal Assembly last October, said, “we used the ‘Conversation in the Spirit’ method consistently at the Synod in Rome, and I found it a powerful way to let the Spirit speak through the group.  I am excited that Youth 2000 is intending to use the same method for its upcoming gathering.  I am convinced that using the ‘Conversation in the Spirit’ will be a blessing for participants and indeed for the whole process.”

If you wish to secure a place at the Youth 2000 event, please click the link below.  There are no tickets or QR codes required as everyone will be welcome on the day regardless of having completed the RSVP form.   The form includes a space for any questions or queries, and an email [email protected]
