A special concert entitled The Story of Love will be held in Our Lady’s Basilica in Knock, Co Mayo, on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October. The Vatican has now announced that this concert will stream live to a global audience through Pope Francis’ ‘Click to Pray’ prayer app and YouTube channel. The Pope’s video for the month of October, featuring his prayer intention, will be screened as part of the event.
The concert is a four-part story of love, loss, forgiveness and reconciliation told through songs composed by Dublin-born Willie Hughes and performed by Italian singers. The opening sequence of the concert is a screen presentation of creation, accompanied by a performance by the Sistine Chapel Choir. The screenings will culminate in a live video-linked performance by a ‘universal choir’, made up of choirs from around the world including the Sistine Chapel Choir Rome; Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Choir New York; Metropolitan Cathedral Choir Mexico City; Choirs from Hiroshima, Manila, Melbourne, and many more countries.
Mr Hughes said that the aim of the concert is to celebrate the interconnectedness and the interdependence of humanity, planet earth and the divine, and to promote inclusiveness in a world increasingly dominated by negative patterns of exclusion: “We all know that the world is in a mess, greed is choking everything. But peoples’ hearts are good. We want to touch them with an experience of global togetherness.”
Following successful performances at Farmleigh House and Dublin Castle, The Story of Love concert has received support from Papal Nuncio His Excellency Archbishop Charles Brown, Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam and Bishop Eamonn Walsh, as well as President of Ireland Michael D Higgins.
