The 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home will be marked at the International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine in Knock, Co Mayo, with a special event titled ‘Raising Hope for Our Common Home’ on Saturday April 26th. The day-long gathering will take place from 10am to 4pm in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, located opposite the Knock Bookshop.
This significant milestone will be celebrated with a rich programme of dialogue, reflection, and discussion, featuring three distinguished guest speakers. Renowned environmentalist, scientist, and broadcaster Eanna Ní Lamhna will join Jane Mellett, Church outreach officer with Trócaire, and geographer Dr Brendan O’Keeffe to share insights on climate action, faith, and our responsibility to care for the planet.
Ahead of the Knock gathering, Ms Mellett said, “This celebration promises to be a hopeful and inspiring occasion, inviting all to renew their commitment to caring for our common home. “Hope is found in action and there are many good news stories which can inspire us all in this time of ecological crisis. Truly, much can be done!” (LS, 180).
Laudato Si’, published in 2015, has had a profound impact on global conversations – within and without the Church – about ecology, sustainability, and the moral imperative to protect the Earth. This event at Knock Shrine offers a meaningful opportunity for individuals to explore the message of the encyclical, connect with like-minded people, and reflect on their role in fostering a more just and sustainable world.
Tickets are priced at €15 per person and include access to all talks and discussions throughout the day. As space is limited, early booking is strongly recommended. For bookings and more information, please contact Nicola Mitchell at [email protected] or call +353 (0) 94 93 88100 ext 408.
