Laudato Si’ Week taking place internationally to mark one year anniversary of Pope’s encyclical

Laudato Si’ Week (LSW) is a major international celebration of the one year anniversary of the Pope’s encyclical letter Laudato Si’, which was published on 18 June 2015.

In his encyclical letter, on care for our common home, Pope Francis posed the question:”What kind of a world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?”

Laudato Si’ Week is aiming to give people an opportunity to reflect on the Pope’s message and relevance, and to take action to bring it to life.

The LSW website www.laudatosiweek.org is the online hub for the campaign. The “Laudato Si Online Conference” is a series of webinars, one for each chapter of the encyclical, which are taking place between 13 and 17 June to encourage a dialogue between prominent speakers from different backgrounds.

An interactive social media campaign is taking place online and people are being invited to engage online by sending messages about Laudato Si’ and related topics (e.g. impacts of the climate crisis in their countries). A beautiful new video is also celebrating the encyclical and raising awareness about the anniversary.

The goal is to mobilise at least 1,000 parishes, communities and schools around the globe to host an event on the encyclical that demonstrates how local communities are putting Laudato Si’ into action.
