Lough Derg Three Day Pilgrimage Season to finish next week

by | 5 Aug, 2016 | News

The Lough Derg three day pilgrimage season of 2016 will come to a close next week. The final three day pilgrimage will begin on Saturday 13 August to finish on Monday 15 August. One day pilgrimage dates will be open throughout August and September for those who still wish to visit the Holy Island.

The Lough Derg three day pilgrimage programme follows a 1000-year-old pattern of prayer, including a 24-hour Vigil and the completion of nine ‘Station’ prayers at various locations on the island, along with fasting and prayer and reflection in bare feet. One day retreats offer a guided day of reflection and renewal which includes prayers of intercession, healing of memories, Confession, Eucharist as well as Rosary and Way of the Cross. The afternoon offers an opportunity for quiet time and personal prayer.

In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, all pilgrims to the island will also have an opportunity to pass through the Holy Door of Mercy which was opened by His Excellency Archbishop Charles Brown, Papal Nuncio to Ireland, at the opening of Lough Derg pilgrimage season in May.

The dates for one day pilgrimages to Lough Derg in August and September are as follows:

August 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30

September 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 24
