‘Make Your Home In Me’ is theme for 2016 Music Ministry Together Summer School

Music Ministry Together is a five-day summer school held at Cistercian College Roscrea from 16 – 21 August, for youth and adult leaders who have a passion for liturgical music and the desire to serve as ministers in their parishes, schools and communities.

Music Ministry Together is led by internationally known composer, teacher, and liturgical musician Ian Callanan and a dynamic team of adult directors and tutors (all volunteers). The program seeks to fulfill its mission of engaging and empowering young music ministers with a particular emphasis on contemporary Church music and liturgy. It is an experiential course, where the participants not only learn new music but are also introduced to various styles of Liturgy, the Eucharist, Sacraments and Catechesis.

While the course is about learning new music and about the ministry of music, there is plenty of time for the participants to have some fun. Nightly entertainment is provided while afternoon activities ranging from swimming to football will ensure that you have an enjoyable few days.

There is no minimum age participants need to be to attend the course. However those wishing to bring a group under the age of 15 must be accompanied and supervised at all times by adults.

Introducing the theme of the summer school Ian Callanan said, “The theme for the 2016 summer school is ‘Make Your Home in Me’. The theme is a reminder of the constant need to have Jesus in our lives, for him to make his home in our hearts so that we, just as Jesus did, and as we are reminded by Pope Francis, can be a true bacon of light in the world.

“The hope and prayer is that we, as people of faith, will shift our gaze from our “pockets” and “stomachs” to the “eyes” and the “hearts” of the suffering, to see the “empty plate” of our brothers and sisters across the fence, when we indulge in our own “heaped plate”. We are called to change the lives of our brothers and sisters who are still internally displaced people, to give hope to the them so that they may become a bacon of light in this world. Come and join us where we will explore these themes in more detail”.

The cost for attending the summer school is €300 (residential) for five days or €50 for a day visitor.
