Martin Scorsese guest of honour at launch of Pope Francis’ new book

5 Nov, 2018 | News

Sharing the Wisdom of Time by Pope Francis and friends will be launched in Dublin tomorrow, 6 November, by the Papal Nuncio.  The book was launched at a major event in the Vatican on 23 October.  Martin Scorsese, who features in the book, was the guest of honour.

The book was especially commissioned by Francis following the success of the New York Times bestseller, Dear Pope Francis.  It includes the stories of older people from around the globe and is illustrated with stunning photographic portraits taken by National Geographic photographer Paul Audia.

Three Irish people are featured in the book: Des O’Grady SJ, Dublin, who is living with Alzheimer’s; Margaret Irwin West, Connemara, an artist in her 90s still working and exhibiting; and Margaret O’Reilly from Derry, who tells of a valuable lesson she learnt as a child.

Commenting on the book, Cecilia West of Messenger Publications says, “Many agree that our world is a mess, but is anyone listening to older people who have seen it all before?  They have suffered war, hunger and international tensions in times past.

“Many older people have a real gift of wisdom.  This book gives us an opportunity to listen to that wisdom, and to hear Pope Francis’ reflections on what they have to say.”

Sharing the Wisdom of Time by Pope Francis and friends was published by Jesuit publishers around the world.  Messenger Publications, Dublin published the book in Ireland and the UK on Tuesday 23 October 2018.  Priced at €24.95/£22.50.
