The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) is preparing for Mass to commemorate the memory of Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of the European Union. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Manuel Barrios Prieto, COMECE’s Secretary General, and Father Krystian Sowa SJ, the Director of the Chapel for Europe, at 18:30 (CET) on 4 September, at the Chapel for Europe on Rue Van Maerlant 22-24 in Brussels.
The Mass will mark the 60th anniversary of Mr Schuman’s death, and will be offered for the happy repose of his soul and in thanksgiving for his life.
In 2021, Pope Francis officially recognised Robert Schuman’s commitment to Christian values by declaring him venerable. |
COMECE is composed of the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of all Member States of the European Union. Since 2009, dialogue between Churches and EU institutions has a legal basis in Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
