This week the annual Maynooth Christmas Carol Service will be will be led by the President of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Reverend Professor Michael Mullaney, and live-streamed from 7.30pm on YouTube.
Since 1970 the carol service, which comprises song and scripture, has become a significant part of the Advent calender as the faithful prepare for the coming of the Nativity of the Lord; the celebration of Emmanuel, God-is-with-us. The popular event takes place in the beautiful and historic College Chapel of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and is widely recognised in Ireland as the musical highlight of this holy season.
A full house is expected and those in attendance are assured of wonderful performances by the four Maynooth College and University choirs: the College Chapel Choir, and the Maynooth Choral Society, directed by Dr John O’Keeffe; the Schola Gregoriana, led by Dr Darina McCarthy; and, the Maynooth University Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr Michael Dawson.
The carol service will be live-streamed on YouTube so that everyone can enjoy the incredibly moving liturgical tradition.
