Bookings are now open for the annual course for parishioners in the Pontifical Irish College in Rome in September.
The five days include a series of talks, liturgies and guided visits to significant churches and basilicas in Rome, a day of spiritual recollection and reflection, a pilgrimage to a shrine outside of Rome, as well as an opportunity to attend a General Audience with Pope Francis.
As this year’s course takes place during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, participants will be afforded an opportunity to reflect on the theme of ‘Opening the Door of Mercy’.
Presentations will be given by the following:
- Monsignor Ciarán O’Carroll, Pontifical Irish College, Rome, will lead the participants through the Holy Doors at the Basilica of St. Peter and the Basilica of St. John Lateran. He will also give reflections on the theme of Mercy in the Baptistry of St. John Lateran.
- Father Tom Norris, Pontifical Irish College, Rome, will conduct a day of reflection.
- Father Hugh Clifford, Pontifical Irish College, Rome, will speak on “Formation: Letting God open us to mercy” and will lead the participants through the Holy Door at the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls.
- Ms Frances Rowland, Diocese of Kerry Pastoral Team, will focus on experiencing and living mercy today.
The cost of the course is €750. Places are limited. Those who wish to reserve a place should telephone the Pontifical Irish College on the main office number at 00 39 06 772 631 or email [email protected] or write to Pontifical Irish College, Via Dei S.S. Quattro, 1, 00184 Roma, Italy.
Founded in 1628, this is the last of the many Irish Colleges that were once scattered over Europe when it was not possible to educate priests in Ireland. Today the College is home to 60 students, with half coming from Ireland and the others representing many different nations. On this site you will find information on who lives here and on the College’s ongoing mission of formation.
The College organises different events for the Irish and for the wider international community in Rome. Over thirty couples from Ireland celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage at the College last year; young people are prepared for the Sacraments of First Penance, First Communion and Confirmation. Conferences and courses are hosted during the Summer months on different aspects of religion, safeguarding, ongoing faith formation and culture. Should you require further information on any forthcoming events just follow the appropriate links on this site. You may also access our library catalogue as well as see photographs recording some of the more recent events in the life of the Pontifical Irish College.
