Now in its fourth year, the ‘Logos Scripture Summer School’ invites participants to join one of two distinct four-day courses, the first running from 27 June to 1 July, and the second from 11 July to 15 July. Set amid the beautiful grounds of the Cistercian Abbey Guesthouse in Roscrea, Co Tipperary, the Fourth Annual Logos Scripture Summer School offers a rare chance for busy people to step away from the daily grind and dive into the brilliance of Sacred Scripture.
Talking to CatholicNews.ie about the summer school, Ms Petra Conroy, one of its organisers, said, “This year we are delighted to offer two distinct four-day courses, each designed to deepen your love and understanding of the Bible – no prior study required. Whether you are a lifelong reader of the Word or just beginning, this is a welcoming space to explore, reflect, and spend time with like-minded people. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments for our evening social time.
“From 27 June to 1 July, course one takes you on a whistle-stop tour of the entire Bible. Father Terence Crotty OP (pictured with participants), our presenter, will guide you through the Old Testament’s history books, Prophets, Psalms, and Wisdom writings, before turning to the New Testament’s Gospels, Saint Paul’s Letters, and a peek at Revelation. Then, from 11 to 15 July, course two unpacks Jesus’ Emmaus Road revelation, showing how the Old Testament brims with His presence. As Father Terence puts it, ‘We’ll ask what Jesus meant when He said the Scriptures spoke of Him, and see how He fills and fulfils them everywhere.’
“Father Terence, a Dominican priest and scripture scholar based at Saint Saviour’s Priory, Dublin, brings a wealth of insight to the Summer School. With a doctorate from the University of Fribourg and studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, he is equally at home with Genesis or with a New Testament Greek manuscript! Yet his approach is warm and accessible, and we blend lectures with personal study, group discussions, and Q&A sessions. Daily Mass, prayer, and social time round out the experience, all set against the abbey’s peaceful walks and stunning landscapes.
“Past participants have been full of praise: ‘The Scripture instruction was both affirming and illuminating for our faith,’ one said, praising Father Terence’s ‘good humour, knowledge, and patience.’ Another called it ‘a healing few days.’ And the guesthouse’s amazing staff and excellent food add quite a bit to the whole experience.”
Ms Conroy concluded, “Why not join us this summer? Spaces are limited, so book your spot now by emailing [email protected]. Come for the Scripture, stay for the friendship – and leave with a renewed love for God’s Word!
