Pope Francis to join Instagram

by | 18 Mar, 2016 | News

Pope Francis is about to put out further into the deep of the Internet with the launch of a new Instagram account in his own name.

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app, as well as through a variety of other social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr.

Pope Francis has more than 27 million followers on his Twitter accounts (9 different languages) and his tweets are some of the most liked and shared words each time he shares a tweet.

The move to join Instagram has been anticipated for some time as it is now bigger and faster-growing than Twitter, with some 400 million users worldwide.

Pope Francis will make his Instagram debut this week under the handle Franciscus, the Vatican has confirmed.
