The beautifully restored statue of the Sacred Heart was replaced this week in Saint Mel’s Cathedral in Longford.
James Snell of Conservation & Restoration has worked with great care since September at putting the four sections back together again. A new plinth has also been created.
To really appreciate the superb and painstaking restoration work carried out by James Snell of Conservation & Restoration, some file pics of the statue and surrounding area from just after the fire have been added.
Compare them to today’s pictures and the scale of the restoration work becomes evident.
The return of this beautiful piece is the latest addition to the restoration work in the cathedral which was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Christmas morning 2009. The restored cathedral re-opened in December 2014.
