Requiem Mass will be offered this Friday, 15 April, in Saint Patrick’s Church, Donegall Street, Belfast for the repose of the souls of the victims of the Belfast Blitz. The Mass coincides with the 75th anniversary of the most disastrous event in the city’s history, in which more than 900 people were killed, and 1,500 were injured.

On Sunday, 17 April at 3.30pm, an ecumenical Service of Remembrance will be held in Saint Anne’s Cathedral at which Father Michael Sheehan, Administrator of Saint Patrick’s Church, and the Dean of Saint Anne’s Cathedral, Very Rev John Mann, will preach. During the service candles will be lit to offer symbolic reflection for those who lost their lives in the Blitz. The ecumenical service will mark the end of a weekend of commemorations, which opens with the unveiling of a memorial plaque at Saint George’s Market, a temporary mortuary during the blitz.

All the faithful of Belfast and the Diocese of Down and Connor are warmly invited to attend both events.
