On 19 June, Trócaire bid a fond farewell to Caoimhe de Barra, who has dedicated more than 25 years to its mission, including the past seven as Chief Executive Officer.

Caoimhe leaves behind a powerful legacy of leadership, compassion, and commitment to justice and human rights.  Under her stewardship, Trócaire has navigated global challenges with resilience and purpose, continuing its vital work supporting communities affected by poverty, conflict, and climate change across the world.

Chair of the Board of Trócaire, Bishop Paul Dempsey, paid tribute to her leadership: “Caoimhe has been the voice for so many of those in our world today who have no voice.  Through her great leadership ability, Caoimhe has strengthened the team at Trócaire, leaving it in a very strong position to face the many challenges now and into the future.”

Reflecting on her journey, Caoimhe described her time at Trócaire as “the privilege of a lifetime.”  She added, “It was an honour to have a leadership role in bringing about positive change where it is needed most.  The work of Trócaire is more important than it has ever been and it would not be possible without the support of the Irish public, who for over 52 years, have stood steadfast in their support for the world’s most marginalised people.  I am grateful to them for their continued support.”

Renowned for her integrity, energy, and unwavering advocacy for global justice, Caoimhe de Barra has consistently led by example.  Her leadership helped deepen Trócaire’s impact in regions facing war, inequality, and humanitarian crises, while also strengthening the organisation’s voice in international development and human rights.
