World Meeting of Families host Family Festival this weekend in Cork

World Meeting of Families will host a family festival this weekend, Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 August, at the Dominican youth camp in Knockadoon, Co Cork. Families from across Ireland are invited to join for the two-day festival of fun, talks, prayer and family activities in preparation for the World Meeting of Families which will take place in Dublin in August 2018.

Registration for the festival will begin on Saturday morning at 8.00am. During the day there will be activities and entertainment for children, led by 40 trained youth workers, as well as discussion forums for mothers and fathers. Father Tim Bartlett, Secretary General of the World Meeting of Families, will give a keynote address for the festival at 4.00pm. Following the address, there will be a family rosary ceremony at 5.30pm and music and fun to close out the night. The festival will also offer 24 hour adoration beginning on the Saturday.

On the Sunday, Mass will be celebrated throughout the morning from 8.00am to 11.00am. The main feature of the Sunday will see all the families present come together for a family picnic on the Knockadoon camp grounds.

Tickets to the picnic will cost €85 per family, which includes all meals, conferences and children’s activities. Camping is also available for €25. Booking and registration details can be found here.

Knockadoon camp is a Catholic youth camp run by the Order of Friars Preachers (Dominicans) in Ireland under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the most Holy Rosary, and St Dominic. It is situated in one of the most beautiful and picturesque areas of Ireland, a short distance from the town of Youghal on the east coast of Cork. It is an area of great natural beauty with scenic walking tracks and magnificent views of the Atlantic coast. It is an area of environmental importance, renowned for its many forms of bird and wildlife.

The mission of Knockadoon camp is to bring young people into contact with the living Christ through the living and teaching of the Catholic faith. It aims to provide an environment where each person is respected and cherished as a unique child of God and where the Catholic Faith is lived out with joy and charity. Young people who have spent time in the camp over the years have come away with so many happy memories of the joy, fun and friendship which they found on the camp.
